Introducing the next generations of robots to the world
Despite what we’ve seen in the movies, getting a robot to understand a command and execute it in the physical world is a very, very difficult challenge. One that’s been achieved by the team at Google Research. But how do you explain language model-breakthroughs in a way that’s simple and entertaining. Not just to developers, but to a much bigger, tech-curious audience. Especially when the visible output looks so simple?
While the achievement here is astounding, we knew there was also value in showing the failures along the way. Dramatizing moments of trial and error not only shows how the language model learns, but showcases how comically difficult this process is: One small step for this robot, is one giant leap for robotics.
Working with a comedy director, we created a film that both explains this technology but is also genuinely entertaining; casting this hardworking team as stars in their own movie trailer. This film, on an incredibly niche topic, has been watched over 30,000 times and was featured in the Washington Post, the Verge, and CNET.
