Creative (Copy) / Filmmaker
Location: London, UK and San Francisco, USA
Reports To: Creative Director
Across the Pond:
We are a global, independent, woman-owned creative agency and B Corp. We are a team of strategists, creatives, and storytellers with a relentless curiosity to understand the relationship between people and technology. Our goal is to help the world’s most ambitious tech brands bridge the divide between innovation and human meaning.
Our agency has a background in filmmaking and content production for big tech, but our work has flourished to span creative consultancy, strategy, brand and campaign work for a wide range of large and scale-up tech companies across AI, robotics, biotech and quantum computing.
The Role:
As a Creative/Filmmaker at Across the Pond you will be working with brands that are building the future. As their ideas, tools and products leave the lab, our clients need creative partners to help ensure their tech feels accessible, meaningful and culturally resonant.
You will partner with a team of strategists, designers, technologists and filmmakers to translate innovation into meaningful storytelling that resonates with audiences of all types; broad, technical and niche.
At Across the Pond storytelling can mean many things; brand campaigns and product launches, documentary-style content, animated explainers, event openers and case studies as well as developing content ecosystems and series ideas or formats.
This means while filmmaking and scriptwriting are a key part of the role (you may have a background in directing), it’s also important you feel comfortable turning your ideas, creativity and craft to whatever the challenge requires.
Key Responsibilities:
Translate innovation: You will lead research calls with engineers, researchers and scientists in deep tech, in fields like AI, robotics and quantum computing, to decode the products, tools and initiatives they are building. You’ll help turn these technical subjects and ideas into meaningful concepts, persuasive narratives and engaging scripts.
Origination: No matter the format, we help our clients bridge the gap between the lab and culture with human insights, big creative ideas, and beautiful visual concepts. You will meet briefs with fresh ways to tell stories, new formats and concepts, and beautiful taste in shooting and animation styles, all grounded in the brand or campaign strategy.
Visualization: Lead directors, animators, motion graphics designers and AI creators to ensure your ideas are on brand, elegantly expressed and original in their art direction.
Craft: Act as the creative lead across the production lifecycle. This begins at research and concepting, through script structures and writing, to filming and and goes all the way to overseeing the edit, color grade, and sound mix.
On-set leadership: Bring a strong point of view to live-action sets, collaborating with Directors and to ensure accuracy of the technical content and the strength of the story.
Client lead: You’ll be a persuasive guide for our clients, presenting your work directly, and representing our vision and standards across all touchpoints.
AI & Innovation
We are looking for a creative person who views AI as a co-pilot for high-end craft, not a replacement for it.
Grasp of generative AI for prototyping is strongly preferred: Use of tools like Midjourney and Runway, or tools for editing, versioning or voicing content, to bridge the gap between idea and execution more efficiently.
AI literacy: An understanding of the ethical implications of AI, including bias and copyright issues.
Passion and positivity: We’ll be looking to see evidence of how you’re using AI to bring to life new ideas in personal or professional projects.
Experience
8+ years of experience: In a creative agency or department, with a portfolio showcasing work for major tech or innovation-led brands. On set experience is essential.
Subject matter: Strong evidence of working with deeply technical or scientific subject matter is essential.
Integrated thinking: Strong evidence of brand-level, strategic big ideas that guide the creation of multiple, channel-specific assets in a suite or ecosystem.
Filmmaking background: Concepting, scriptwriting, experience with storyboards and paper edits is essential. As is on set experience.
Visually-strong: Strong evidence of original visual concepts and approaches for live action video, animation, motion graphics, and social video.
Our Culture
Creative consultants: We are not ticket-takers or executors. We make our clients feel seen and held by our strategic and creative expertise. We listen deeply to their challenges, proactively guide them, and shape programs of work to deliver the value they need.
Mission-oriented: We have a front row to the future. We are curious, positive, and passionate about the role technology can play in society.
Collaborative: We are a small but mighty team, organized into a flat and truly collaborative structure. You’ll need to roll up your sleeves and take on a gamut of tasks both big and small, working directly with producers, production managers and freelance craftspeople to deliver results.
Inclusive: Everyone is expected to take active responsibility for an inclusive culture, and for ensuring our work, and our network of suppliers and external talent, reflects the global audiences our clients serve.
